"Perfect Chemistry"

This past week I was reminded why I want to be a baker.

Scott's brother is getting married in a couple of months and his aunts asked ME to bake a cake for one of the wedding showers. Of course, I was delighted and consumed with anxiety all at the same time. I don't have a lot of experience and this was technically my first "customer", even though it was family.
I set to work planning and designing the cake.
I had a blast.

The shower's theme was "Perfect chemistry" and the colours were based on white and bright blue and after a few details on what they wanted for the cake, (Simple, classy and blue) I was told that I pretty much had free reign. They also showed me a cake which was the inspiration for the shower because of the great layers. The picture was a great inspiration and I knew immediately what I wanted to do. That's why I was reminded of why I want to be a baker. I was so inspired that I was filled with joy. I knew the cake would be a lot of work, but I couldn't wait to get started. I love the creativity that comes with baking and designing cakes. But most of all, I love putting a little bit of myself into everything I make. It's like I'm able to mix a little bit of my heart right into the batter and hope they can feel the love I put into it.
The theme Perfect chemistry went well, not only for the shower, but what I learned through this process. Some people are great bakers and cake-makers. They are quick, they are precise and they make beautiful and tasty cakes. Others may not be the best but they bake from the heart. They bake to show they care. They bake for joy and love. And for those people, it doesn't matter if the cake is perfect or the best, what matters is the love that the cake is baked with. For me, I want a perfect chemistry of the two. Great cakes made from the heart.

I am far less than just a beginner. I have made one other cake of this caliber before (for Scott's birthday-it was legend of zelda and totally awesome!) So making this cake was a wonderful experience. I learned so much that I can't wait to try new things. I may have to just start making cakes for no reason just to experiment.

Being the silly person that I am, I failed to take any pictures of the cake while being made or decorated, so I only have the pictures that were taken at the shower by my wonderful mother-in-law.
The outside of the cake is fondant with a piped buttercream border and gum paste flowers on top.
The inside of the cake contains one original vanilla cake, chocolate fudge cake and a second vanilla cake dyed blue. In between the layers I used chocolate ganache. I did the same for both tiers. It was really great because one cake recipe graciously filled both the 8 inch pan and the 6 inch pan.

Overall, I had a WONDERFUL experience and I can't wait to keep learning and creating.

Next time I find time, I have a wonderful recipe to share with all of you: Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies. Seriously Delicious. But for now, I have to finish the laundry and start on dinner. :)

Always love.
